Positive ThinkingMaxx on 26 Feb 2007 10:38 am

Like most individuals on this planet, I have spent a good deal of time fantasizing about the life I would have if only I could choose. I would be more confident. I would be more adventurous. I would get more education and get a better paying job. I would choose satisfying and complimentary relationships. I would feel like I had a valid place in this world.

As much time as I spent fantasizing, however, I probably spent even more time wallowing in the misery of my real life and making excuses about why I couldn’t accomplish these things. I began to assume that every day would be the same as the last. I even started to believe that dreams were for kids and for irresponsible people that intended to bounce from one failure to the next.

Then, one day I had an epiphany. At the time, I was a housewife raising three small children. Though I have the amazing ability to stretch a dime into a dollar, money was always extremely tight. My life centered around taking care of my children and finding ways to stretch the budget just to pay for the necessities of life.

Goal SettingMaxx on 15 Feb 2007 01:34 pm

People say: “One can’t help one’s thoughts.” But one can.

The control of the thinking machine is perfectly possible.

And since nothing whatever happens to us outside our own

brain; since nothing hurts us or gives us pleasure except

within the brain, the supreme importance of being able to

control what goes on in that mysterious brain is patent.

This idea is one of the oldest platitudes, but it is a

platitude whose profound truth and urgency most people live

and die without realising. People complain of the lack of

power to concentrate, not witting that they may acquire the

power, if they choose.

And without the power to concentrate; that is to say,

without the power to dictate to the brain its task and to

ensure obedience; true life is impossible. Mind control is

the first element of a full existence.

Hence, it seems to me, the first business of the day should

be to put the mind through Continue Reading »

General and Emotional IntelligenceMaxx on 05 Feb 2007 05:08 am

Some people are very emotional, and other people . . . not so much. Those people who are very emotional tend to allow their feelings to take over and control their thoughts. Since our emotions prepare our body for some kind of action, when they are triggered, the trigger hitting the inner source is either negative or positive. When the emotions are highly tuned, they tend to create inner chaos when stimulated. Therefore, it’s likely that the person who is able keep their emotions from getting out of control will have a greater sense of inner peace.

To illustration this point, let’s say a mother is focusing on cooking dinner and she’s feeling relaxed and at peace. However, her son, who is helping her set the table, says to her during their conversation, “Mom, you just don’t care if I live or die!”

At some point on your journey to reaching your goals, you’ll need to take some time to reflect in order to determine where you are, where you’ve been, and how this is affecting where you want to go.

A great way to track your progress is to keep a  journal. There are many ways to do this, the most popular being a blank notebook or even a blank bound book that you keep for this purpose. If you write down everything you’ve done that day to reach your goal, you will find it often triggers new ideas and ways to overcome any stumbling blocks you may be dealing with at the moment.
